How to Save Stress When Planning a Move to the Bay Area

An introduction by Blog Host Margaret:

No matter how much we want to move to a new area, or new home, more often than not, moving is a stressful experience! There’s just so much to be done, identifying where you want to live, getting a loan, arranging for packers/movers, saying good bye to old friends and hello to new ones; and let’s not forget about unpacking once we arrive at a destination….”now where did I put that?” Recently Suzie Wilson contacted me about a posting she’d written, I thought it helpful and am happy to post it here. If you are thinking of buying and/or selling any time soon, please let me know and do remember that I know agents in other parts of the U.S. should you want to move out of the Bay area!

Planning a move to sunny California? This helpful guide has all of the resources you need compiled into one convenient place. So let’s start going through them all and let the Bay Area adventure begin!

Finding & Buying a New Home

Obviously you’re going to need a place to live if you want to start calling California home. Make finding and buying that new place a piece of cake:

  • Explore Bay Area Housing Trends so you have a good understanding of what is happening in the area’s real estate market.
  • Before you do anything else, hire an area real estate agent for the insights of a local professional.
  • An agent will have tons of information on local neighborhoods in your new city.
  • It can also be helpful to have a realtor when it comes to negotiating an offer.

Planning a Long-Distance Move

This may sound crazy, but you should really begin planning your move before you close on your new home. Managing a long-distance move can require more effort and more steps:

Feeling Like a Local

Once you conquer the trip and move your stuff, it’s time to start making your new house—and your new city—feel like home. Just keep these moving tips in mind:

  • Recycle your boxes and other packing materials.
  • Once boxes are unpacked and your home is updated, it’s time to explore your new city!
  • Of course, meeting locals is one of the best ways to feel at home in a new place.

Get to Work

Whether you’re starting a new job or moving a well-established business of your own, covering a few critical details ensures you’re prepped for success.

  • You don’t want to miss out on tax paperwork, so get in touch with your former employer with your new contact information.
  • If you need to rent a coworking space, office or equipment for work, search out the best options for your needs.
  • Those who own businesses need to register with the state, which is easy when you use an online service. For instance, in just six steps, you can register an LLC.
  • Do you have a website of your own? Be sure to update your contact page with any changes, too.

Leaving your home state and venturing into another is such a bold move! So be excited about moving to California and get ready for all of the sun and fun this state has to offer. Just be sure to take care of essential moving tasks first, so you can focus on getting to know your new city.
