Warning: quite recently, this little town between Belmont and Redwood City beat out Manhattan as the most pricey real estate in the country! Housing on the Peninsula has its ups and downs: San Carlos is definitely one of the ups.
A town that kept its lovely stone train station—but turned it into a real-estate office. (I should complain!) A town half on the flats (around El Camino Real) and half in the hills (on the old ranchero road, the Alameda de las Pulgas—the Road of the Fleas—a name the Spanish took from the Ohlone Indians.)
San Carlos has a small cute downtown with some really nice restaurants, I just love its downtown area. It’s also a wonderful destination to see Christmas lights and decorations over the holiday season. San Carlos has a little for everyone, properties on the flats and ones in the hills, there’s also Edgewood Park near 280 which is a wonderful place to hike.
