Campbell is a charming mixture of old, new and everything in between. For those seeking something more modern there’s the Pruneyard Shopping Center fronting Bascom Avenue which offers a little bit of everything. How about old-town charm? That can be accommodated too! Campbell has a lively and well attended downtown with great little shops, restaurants and coffee houses.
For those looking for something with a great story not far from downtown Campbell is the Campbell Historic Museum and Ainsley House. The Museum offers memorabilia from a time when Santa Clara County was less about high tech and more about agriculture. The Ainsley House was built in 1925 as the home of Campbell canning pioneer, J.C. Ainsley and his wife Alcinda; it was moved to its present location in 1990.
Single-family homes are the norm in Campbell though there are some multi-unit properties; most houses are older ranch style having been built from the 1950s to the 1970s, with pockets of new houses. Close to downtown Campbell are some older craftsman style homes; these are sought after as remodeling projects since they have so much charm. With that in mind, newer homes near downtown are often built with craftsman-style touches and appearance. One could say that nostalgia has a definite place in Campbell.
