One of the first things you’ll notice about Burlingame is that it has so many trees, and a lot of trees equate to a lot of greenery and a certain softness around the architecture. It turns out that most of these trees are protected by city ordinance earning Burlingame the nickname of “City of Trees.”
Burlingame has a strong Victorian influence in its homes and many are older craftsman-style buildings; these older properties have in many cases been lovingly restored and add a lot of character to the city; if you want to avoid cookie cutter houses, check out Burlingame.
Within close proximity of San Francisco Airport, Burlingame is home to many businesses that directly or indirectly support the airline industry; it also has a thriving “car row.”
If you like to shop or browse, then Burlingame downtown is the place for you, my favorite is to go to Burlingame Avenue, walk around the many shops and have lunch at Il Fornaio (just love their cookies). Parking can be tough downtown so I allow time to find a space, and take your quarters! This is a fabulous place to spend a morning or afternoon; there are many eateries and places worth visiting, so browse and enjoy!
A lesser known fact is the Burlingame library is the repository for opera scores and other items of musical interest in the Peninsula library system.
